My Cyber Threat Intelligence Story (Introduction)
--
Cybersecurity is one of the most intriguing and interesting career field in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). It became a necessity as the world embraces, adopt and implement ICT and its application into day to day activities.
The world has moved from the traditional ways of communication, financial transaction, business partnerships, investment, transportation, education to mention but few into a more ICT (Information and Communication Technology) inclined processes which as in turn as added value to the businesses and users.
This in turn has created new ways which a criminal can perpetrate his activities. It has helped to shift their paradigm of operation and created a less physical stressful platform. It’s the Cyber World! This also created the need for cyberspace security which is CYBERSECURITY.
Cybersecurity is not new yet is dynamic as many new technologies emerges with the use of internet and computer as a medium of dissemination to the world.
Cybersecurity is both active and proactive. Active steps are taken to ensure cyber attack does not repeat itself; it is offensive while proactive is the defensive measures taken to ensure cyber attack does not take place. Proactive measures ensures no robbery while active measures investigate robbery. (I hope you get that?)
I got admitted into a university in Nigeria that just introduced Cybersecurity as a course and I was fortunate to be part of the third set in 2011. My journey begins with uncertainty as I do not understand what the future holds in the chosen career. (I will gist you more about my choice of course later).
I got an internship in 2019 on a 3 month project. It was a project that entails investigation and intelligence about Nigeria cyber ecosystem. I grabbed the opportunity as I love web surfing, very analytical and inquisitive. All this helped and I developed interest in threat gathering.
In between, I have tried several path like pentesting, forensics (even though I still eye this path), web and mobile development but I can beat my chest that I love Threat Intelligence a lot. It is time consuming and brain draining (sometimes) but it worth it later on.
Let me drop my pen here but have this take home. “Follow your passion and fan it to flame”.
